AWE Journal – Timor Leste

This is a most unusual edition of Redress, focussing as it does on issues relating to women and girls in another country. What a wonderful experience these nine AWE members had in Australia’s near neighbour, Timor-Leste. Their personal impressions as well as the more formal discussion of relevant issues, make it fascinating reading.
It was a real honour to have been invited to Timor-Leste by no less a person than Kirsty Sword Gusmão, wife of the Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, and it is inspiring to read of the work she and her colleagues are doing on behalf of the women and girls of their country.
Each of the nine women from AWE has contributed articles to this issue of Redress, and each has clearly found the visit to be a life-changing experience. Perhaps you will too, as you see through their eyes both the challenges and the victories of the women of Timor-Leste.
