It could not be timelier that the World Health Organisation (WHO) designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. The courageous work of nurses and other healthcare workers in the face of the corona virus does honour to the Year of the Nurse and Midwife and the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
Their value to society has clearly been made evident during the crisis. The Association of Women Educators salutes them. We congratulate nurses and midwives for achieving the designation of this year by the WHO. This does not happen by chance but is the result of global, sustained advocacy by the professional associations and unions of nurses and midwives.
