Global Nurse

Jane Connell
Nurse and Midwife
Jane worked with Medecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) for a decade and she recounts how working as a nurse and midwife in the global context enriched her professional life.
Her first international job was in 1999 when she supported maternal and child health services in three primary health centres in western Afghanistan. In 2001 she went to Sierra Leone to provide clinical care in two hospitals in a rebel held area.
She helped train Traditional Birth Attendants in China, founded and managed a Health Centre in south Ethiopia, supported midwives in Liberia and worked at the University of Goroka (UOG) in the Highlands of PNG providing midwifery education.
